Aelaa was born in Alexandria, Egypt. Her family learned that she had a hearing problem at age three and half when she performed her first hearing test. Until now, the cause of her hearing loss is unknown. When she was five, her family decided to move to Virginia to provide her with a better education. Aelaa attended the public schools from elementary to high school and in 2009 she earned her bachelor degree from a local university. Aelaa is currently working towards her master’s degree in Special Education at George Mason University.
